Intersec Forum 2019 shares know-how on connected security technology in buildings

19 Mar 2019

Intersec Forum enhances the know-how on interconnecting safety and security systems in buildings and infrastructures of the future. The fourth conference for connected security technology was a great success and ended this afternoon after two intense days of expert lectures and discussions. 320 participants from the fields of planning, installation and the operation of connected building-services systems gathered information and exchanged ideas and opinions with manufacturers, developers and researchers.

“We are delighted with the extremely positive echo from the past two days. This is an outstanding foundation for our future plans to give connected security technology a sharp profile over the coming years: As an interdisciplinary international conference and industry exhibition entitled Intersec Building, it will be an integral part of Light + Building 2020”, said Iris Jeglitza-Moshage, Senior Vice President, Messe Frankfurt, on the final day of the conference.

The high level of interest shown by participants in the subjects covered by the Intersec Forum was reflected by the growing number of visitors with 320 specialists from home and abroad taking part in the two-day event (2017: 180 participants). The Intersec Forum during Light + Building 2018 welcomed 650 participants, albeit on a total of five days.

The lectures and well-attended panel discussions showed how important it is to include the interconnection of the individual installations at an early stage with regard to the interoperability of the systems and their cyber security, as well as for innovative fire-protection applications and with planning models, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM). Highly desirable is, according to the expert speakers, an even simpler, more comprehensive integration, which anticipates users’ needs and is easier to operate. The participants agreed that digitalisation and the expectations of the market are exercising great pressure for the development of building-automation systems and, therefore, smart buildings.

“Digitalisation and networking are now integral aspects of modern security and building-services technology whereby interoperability and cyber security are vital issues. Intersec Forum spotlights current developments and challenges and represents an important platform for manufacturers and planners, as well as installation contractors and other experts from the construction business”, said Dr Klaus Mittelbach, Chairman of the Executive Board of the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie e.V. – ZVEI), appreciating the fourth edition of Intersec Forum.

With around 30 expert contributions, the two-day conference put the focus of interest in the sector on topical questions regarding connected safety and security in tomorrow’s buildings: ‘Fire protection: early detection and alarming’, ‘Cyber security: connectivity and new business models’, ‘Semantic interoperability: platforms and protocols’ and ‘New challenges for planners and installation specialists: BIM and building-contract law’. The experts on interoperability came from software supplier Advancis Software & Services, electrical installation technology manufacturer Busch-Jaeger Elektro and EEBUS, an interdisciplinary network of manufacturers of connected home automation, electric mobility and energy.

The subject of cyber security was tackled by Frauke Greven of the German Federal Office for Information Security (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik – BSI), as well as experts from Honeywell Business Technologies, from Sauter, the specialists for building automation and management, from Siemens Building Technologies and from Finland’s remote-maintenance specialists Tosibox.

The second day of the conference focused attention on fire protection where the innovations revolve around questions of very early fire detection and the integration of smoke-control systems in large building complexes and high rise buildings, as well as IP-based acoustic and voice alarm systems. The speakers included specialists from Bosch Building Technologies, fire-protection system developers Hekatron and Siemens Building Technologies, as well as experts for smoke and heat-extraction systems for building-services technologies STG-BEIKIRCH.

The demands placed on planners and installation specialists by BIM and the new building-contract law were examined by experts from the Facility Management Department of Middle Hesse University of Applied Sciences (TH Mittelhessen), the Fraunhofer Building Innovation Alliance, Groben Ingenieure planning office, Siemens Building Technologies Germany and lawyers Kapellmann & Partner.

Trade-fair expertise in the fields of safety, security & fire

With twelve events at present, Messe Frankfurt ranks among the world’s leading organisers of fairs and congresses for the growing international sphere of civil safety and security. The events for the safety and security sector are held in Asia, Europe, the Near and Middle East and South America and offer optimum access to these dynamic growth markets.

Intersec Forum is the annual conference for connected security technology in Frankfurt am Main. First held in 2016, the conference focuses on the building-related interconnection of security systems. It is held concurrently in alternate years with the Light + Building and ISH trade fairs. Next year, it will be embedded in Intersec Building, the international platform for connected security technology at Light + Building from 8 to 13 March 2020.
