Inside Messe Frankfurt: Doing your own laundry pays off

Right in the middle of the about 400,000 sqm large Frankfurt exhibition grounds are an in-house laundry and clothing store, managed by the Accente subsidiary. Accente operates all of Messe Frankfurt's catering units – from restaurants, cafés and bars to supermarkets and souvenir shops – and handles personnel placements for events.

For all assignments, whether employee canteen or Gala, the staff wears uniforms. But how are they cleaned? The laundry is equipped with two large washing machines, two flatwork ironers and an ironing station, which are used to clean Accente's own clothing for service, kitchen, logistics and cleaning. The in-house laundry means that no large stocks are required. The situation is different with the exhibition clothing. This is managed in the clothing store: Around 40,000 items are stored in the clothing room – the majority is trade fair clothing (approx. 75 percent), such as uniforms for hosts and hostesses, hall management, traffic and many more. The trade fair clothing is cleaned by an external service provider, as the volume and the care requirements of the uniforms are sometimes too high – some uniforms require special textile care.

The advantages of having an own laundry and clothing store are high flexibility, saving of resources as well as cost savings.
