Traceability? RFID!

Save energy, minimise costs, protect the environment: these topics drive the textile care industry too. The evolution of the Internet of Things and advances in manufacturing automation are leading to an increase in use of RFID in the laundry industry. The Chinese market is following this trend. From 25–27 September 2019 the first joint edition of the trade shows Texcare Asia and China Laundry Expo provided a platform for exchange, development and partnerships across the whole textile supply chain.

How many units are in circulation and where? How many laundry items are processed per day? And how long can these be used? With the growing range of the industrial laundry service and textile rental segment, traceability and efficient management are becoming increasingly important. From industry to healthcare and hospitality: RFID transponders are being used in more and more fields in order to keep up with new trends and special requirements. Experts in the field of textile identification shared their knowledge and experiences at the trade show. They included the Swiss company Datamars, which has more than 250 million tags in use worldwide, Ewell from Hong Kong, whose tags are designed for the specific environmental conditions in hospitals, and the German company Thermopatch with its Oeko-Tex Standard-compliant transponder patches.

“This edition was truly a success. With more attention for sustainability and technology, RFID in particular, we were able to provide a product range that reflected what is currently going on in the laundry and textile care industry," says Richard Li, General Manager at Messe Frankfurt Shanghai Co Ltd. More than 25,000 visitors and 300 exhibitors came together in Shanghai to play a part in these developments.
